CAMPAIGN: IN DEFENSE OF THE LIVING FOREST
Club Deportivo Sarayaku "The Sons of the Jaguar" Soccer with a cause.
Who we are?
We are the Native Indigenous Kichwa People of Sarayaku , we live in the south central Ecuadorian Amazon. We are a benchmark for our struggle for the rights of nature , of the Indigenous Peoples and Universal Human Rights . Our struggle for territorial defense has symbolized an achievement for all the indigenous peoples of America. We sowed a successful precedent against a large oil company supported by the Ecuadorian government who intended to violate and destroy our territory. Our People have been and will remain the guardian of the Living Forest.
Our struggle has been strengthened through various fronts: education, health , self-government , communication and now we want to do it with soccer.
Our proposal
For the first time in the history of Indigenous Peoples , Sarayaku has decided to launch our message of life and defense of Kawsak Sacha or “Living Forest” by doing it so through the king of all sports, soccer. Through this, we want to reach the consciousness of men, women and children so the whole society realizes the importance of the Amazon for the life of all living beings on this planet.
We think that soccer, is a way to unite people of different faiths and cultures, and it can be a space that enhances our message and transmits it to the hearts of the entire society , involving a greater number of people.
Construction of soccer with a cause.
At this time the “Club Deportivo Sarayaku” has taken an important step , reaching the professional zonal championship as second category which is the prelude to professional soccer in category B.
This experience began at the local professional soccer tournament of second category, where " Deportivo Sarayaku " had an outstanding participation by winning the Vice-championship.
Is it possible to save the Amazon with sports?
We are convinced that it is possible.
Sumak Kawsay - Life in Harmony or “Good Living” - is one of the deepest knowledge of our culture , a contribution to all humanity in the context of a global ecological crisis. Soccer is one of the most watched sports and followed by the population.
Our dream is to generate a broad and diverse space, where multiculturalism is a reality and that we can raise awareness about the importance of defending the Amazon, not only for indigenous peoples but for all mankind, generating a greater awareness beyond traditional settings, towards a larger audience.
Results of the Crowdfunding:
All funds from this campaign will go to strengthen the Sports Club of Sarayaku in order to achieve stellar levels within the National Soccer Cup and through this achieve to make our message visible, the defense of the living Forest - Kawsay Sacha.
Our Contributtion
Each day we sacrifice valuable time to defend the Law of Nature and Rights as Native Indigenous Peoples. Meanwhile, those in power plan strategies in order to make millions of dollars for wars and destroy communities and nature .
